The reception - regardless of the type - usually begins with a receiving line.
This gives the bride, groom, and parents the opportunity to greet and thank guests as
they arrive.
The bride´s mother traditionally starts the receiving line followed by the bride´s
father. Normally, the bridal party is not included so the bride and groom can choose
whom they wish to be on the receiving line.
A reception will usually last from 3 to 6 hours - this will vary according to type of
reception and number of guests in attendance. The photographer or videographer should
be present to capture the entire event. An essential task will be preparing a reception
schedule in order that the musician, dancing, and so on can be kept to a fairly accurate
time - remember you will probably be hiring out the reception facility who may have a time
limit on using the space.
