The wedding reception is a celebration that has survived through the ages, in every
community. It represents the joy and good fortune of two peopleŽs affection for each
other first, then their family and friends. This is a tradition that has been manifested
in many ways but whose intent is the same: the bride and groom thanking those around them
and sharing their joy. This means a reception that is special, unique, personal and
unforgettable. Of course this does not mean an expensive and lavish presentation, but
rather a celebration that represents the bride and groom and will evoke pleasant thoughts.
TYPES OF RECEPTIONS

- Alcoholic beverages such as Mimosas, champagne punch, Bloody Marys and champagne
may be served optionally
Midday Luncheon
- Wedding ceremony mid-morning followed by either a buffet or sit-down style reception
served about 1 or 2 pm
- Buffet style can include various salads and main courses ranging from open-face
sandwiches, cold cuts and cheese to poached salmon and seafood.
- More formal luncheon often begins with cocktails, a variety of hors dŽoeuvres, a
soup or salad as starter followed by a main course and dessert.
- Champagne and white wine are most popular, while coffee or tea is served with the
wedding cake
Afternoon Tea/Cocktails
- Wedding ceremony is held mid-afternoon; tea receptions begin approx. 4-5 pm.
- Tea sandwiches, finger food, pastries and wedding cake are a basic menu
- Cocktail receptions begin approximately 5-6 pm
- Hot and cold hors dŽoeuvres, champagne, punch, beer, and wine are normal fare for
this type of reception
Dinner
- Wedding ceremony is often held mid-afternoon and followed by a cocktail hour and
dinner
- This type of reception can offer an open buffet (guests select their meal from an
open bar, may sit where they wish or be assigned - this is generally a more relaxed,
informal reception),
or, a full-course sit-down meal (a fixed menu, assigned seating - this is much more
formal an atmosphere, and generally more costly)
